King of Shadows by Susan Cooper

Length: 186 pages, 19 Chapters

The story begins with a boy name Nat who is on his way to London to perform with an acting troup in a recreated version of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. He falls ill during his time there and travels 400 years into the past where he is still himself but is acting with the real Shakespeare in the original plays. The book is very kid friendly reading and is good about explaining what Nat is discovering in the Renaissance time period from his own first hand account and would be enjoyed by both boys and girls.
